1000 Horses Muster To Meet The Olympic Flame In Scone

DAYBREAK, August 31, will see the Olympic flame travel through the Scone Shire.
Runners will carry the torches through Aberdeen, Scone and Wingen, and each of these communities will celebrate the event with an array of community spirit on parade.
Organisers are hoping to have up to 1000 horse riders in formation as a centrepiece of the celebrations, which, if successful, would create a world record.
Among the 1000 riders will be 20 St Joseph's school students.
As well as having students riding, the school has organised the morning for all students to watch the relay and the afternoon for a combined mini-Olympics with Aberdeen Public School.
St Joseph's High School principal, Mr John Tobin, suggests that `the mini-Olympics will be an important leadership exercise for Year 12 students to run and organise before immersing themselves full-time in study for the Higher School Certificate'.
One of the aims of the Olympic Torch Relay Committee was to involve as many people as possible in the various celebrations, to make it truly a community event.
The program for the Scone Shire has captured this aim and if all goes to plan the celebrations should convey to everybody the unique experience of the Olympic spirit.
