SOME Mount Hutton Year 6 students interviewed John Domandl on his experience at the Paralympic Games and as a torch bearer of the Olympic Torch Relay.
John, from Eleebana, was given the opportunity to run with both the Paralympic and Olympic Torches.
On both occasions he said, `I had the opportunity all along, because I have helped so many people and have committed myself to numerous activities.'
John was a competitor in the 1988 Seoul Paralympic Games in South Korea. He competed in the javelin and pentathlon events.
Even though he didn't win any medals he still thought the experience was `mind-blowing'.
Back at home John has won numerous medals at national level, including holding the record for javelin from 1986 to 1988.
Unfortunately, he was not able to qualify for Paralympics 2000, because he was not able to perform and train to the 100% level needed.
Now, though, he says he will be able to spend more time with his family and friends.
Mr Domandl's disability is that he is visually impaired and, while he is not blind, he can only see partially.
